CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WTVF) — U.S. Senate GOP hopefuls, Bill Hagerty and Manny Sethi have both been tested for COVID-19 after they were potentially exposed to the disease during a recent event in Chattanooga.

Hamilton County Health Department officials said an attendee of the Lincoln Day Dinner was at the event during their infectious period with COVID-19. Both Sethi and Hagerty were in attendance. They are locked in a tough race for an open U.S. Senate seat.

Dr. Sethi said on Twitter Wednesday afternoon he would take a test following the exposure and encouraged Hagerty to do the same as well.

"After hearing the news this afternoon that a Hamilton GOP Dinner attendee has tested positive for COVID, I’ll be going to get tested out of an abundance of caution. I encourage Bill Hagerty to go do the same, along with any others who think they may have been exposed."

Shortly after Dr. Sethi's tweet, Hagerty responded in his own tweet saying he had already tested negative.

"After I was notified about the Hamilton County Lincoln Day Dinner, I got tested for COVID as soon as possible. I just received my test results and they came back negative. Thank you to everyone for your prayers."

Later in the evening, Sethi announced he too was negative for COVID-19.

"We are grateful to report that Dr. Manny has tested negative for COVID-19," Dr. Sethi's tweet read.
